Dr. Martin Bickl
Berufliche (Neu-)Orientierung / Coaching and Development

About me

Passionate, solution-driven, evidence-based. This is my philosophy of coaching. Trained at Cambridge University I do not belong to any particular "school" of coaching but choose from a wide range of tools that are proven to work and, often enough, are enjoyable as you travel on the road to self-discovery.

Building on a career of 20 years as a higher education specialist and international business development manager I chose to turn my passion into my profession: helping people and organisations develop and grow.

Born in Germany and educated in Australia and Great Britain I feel at home and at ease in the German- and English-speaking world. I've been a full member of the Association for Coaching since 2016, fully adhering to its strict quality standards.

Education and training

2018 Diploma in Coaching, University of Cambridge

2005 PhD in Economic Development, Durham University

2000 MSc, Technische Universität München

1997 B.A.(Hons), Flinders University, Australia

1994 Apprenticeship as retail banking specialist

Experience - professional and personal

Professor of Management at German University of Applied Sciences, Potsdam.

Senior higher education management since 2007, with substantial line management and budget responsibilities. Previous positions as a marketing executive, customer advisor and language teacher.

My path to coaching was long and winding, full of surprises, positive and negative. These ups and downs reinforced my natural empathy and ability to relate to clients from various backgrounds. Perhaps the biggest adventure of all was, and is, my family of six. As a father I have experienced the challenge of reconciling work and family life, and I am more than happy to share the solutions that worked for me.

As a coach I engage in continuous professional development and utilize supervision on a frequent basis. This ensures I critically reflect and develop my own practice and philosophy. I happily share my knowledge with others, for example as a tutor on the University of Cambridge coaching programme.
